Our East London studio in Netil House is not only home to Ambar Homeware but is also a textile development hub. We work on surface design, print and custom-made knit projects for both fashion and interior design.
Our clients range from small independent fashion designers to hospitality companies who need a special product designed to compliment their interiors.
We're always open to chat about collaborations, bespoke projects or even to geek out on yarn over a cup of tea!
YARN SEARCH - RESEARCH - RE-SEARCH
Always on a quest for innovative materials, every projects starts with extensive research. We make a point of learning the origin of our yarn and what solutions each supplier offers to reduce or eliminate the impact each fibre processing stage brings to the environment.
This information structures our whole approach to design and enables Ambar and all clients to make responsible decisions during prototyping through to production.
SAMPLES, SWATCHES AND VISUAL CONCEPTS
Each type of yarn allows for endless different fabrications, which makes the design of knit fabrics exciting and sometimes tricky; with some of our favourite pieces born out of serendipitous mistakes! We are very passionate about making textiles as interesting and unique as our visual concepts.
ARTISANAL SCALE WITH INDUSTRIAL FINISHING
Although our knits are machine-made, Ambar's fabrications have an artisanal look and feel to them, as well as an artisanal scale of production. Our projects range from one-off limited editions, to larger scale runs without compromising quality control.
Founded by Natalia Nicolau, Ambar stems from her background in fashion and a decade’s experience in developing textiles for brands both in her native Brazil and the UK. Her degree in Architecture is also instrumental throughout all research and the creative processes.
Natalia draws inspiration from traditional textile techniques such as hand-weaving and embroidery, and closely manages the development of all products with her UK suppliers along each phase of the production process.
Her love of fashion and architectural forms lead to Ambar, a homeware and lifestyle brand that joins visual and tactile comfort with personal style, to help you transform your house into a home.
